Castro/Upper Market Community Benefits District
launches its Streetscape Improvement Project

Wednesday, April 9, 2008
6:30
8 PM
LGBT Community Center
1800 Market St.
Rm 301 Gallery

This Streetscape Design Workshop is an opportunity for community

group members to explore ideas in streetscape improvements

and pedestrian safety for the neighborhood.

The Castro CBD has contracted with Urban Ecology to develop a Streetscape Design and Implementation Plan for the district.  Your participation is important. You are the experts in the neighborhood, and your ideas are needed!

Walgreen's Expansion

In case any of you is not aware, Walgreen's purchased Star Pharmacy (corner of Castro and 18th) in the late 70s.   They expanded into the Castro Cafe shortly afterward.  They then decided that they needed more room for prescriptions so they leased the storefront on 18th St around the corner.  Then they opened up on Market near Sanchez.  Then they expanded the Castro store again, this time moving into the Phoenix Bar.  Last year it was brought to our attention that they had leased the old laundromat next door to their 18th St. store intending to expand yet again
this time creating a "specialty pharmacy".  The new store would be over 3,000 square feet.

Todd Horton of Walgreen's, Supervisor Bevan Dufty, and many concerned neighbors will be attending tomorrow night's EVPA (Eureka Valley Promotion Association) meeting to express their opinion on the expansion.

Please attend if you can.  It will take place at the Eureka Valley Recreation Center behind Cala (or whatever it's called now) at 100 Collingwood, in the main auditorium.  It starts at 7:30p.
