      Hi Neighbors

      This coming Saturday, May 12, we’ll be having our regularly scheduled work day on the Slope - from 10AM - 2PM.  We meet on the 2nd Saturday of every month.

      At 11AM we’ll stop and discuss ideas for the future of the Slope.  I’d like to sign up a core group of about 12 people who function as the “Slope Committee”.  If you’re on this committee, it doesn’t mean you need to be present at every work day.  It just means you’ll play an integral part in planning the future design and function of the Slope.
      No experience necessary - just an interest in figuring how this beautiful site can best integrate into our community.

      I’ll be sending out another email to those people who have already expressed an interest in the Slope.  Sorry for the duplication!

      Hope to see you Saturday!  We’ll have drinks and a few snacks.  We’ll also have a bunch of tools that DPW drops off for our use.  If you have a favorite tool and/or gloves that you’d prefer to use, bring them along.  And if you have a snack you’d like to share......

      REMINDER: OUR NEXT NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING WILL BE ON THURSDAY, APRIL 26TH, 7:30PM.  MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

      It’s been a while since our last cleanup day on the Slope, but good things have happened in the meantime;

      The land was officially transferred back to DPW;
      A DPW crew was out last week and did some major tree pruning on several of the cypresses and flowering eucalyptus trees;
      And, I’ve been speaking with DPW engineers about the possibility of installing retaining walls on the Market Street side to prevent the rock wall from continuing to crumble onto the sidewalk, as well as a more remote possibility of installing a few retaining walls within the park.  These would enable us to create some more level planting areas and a better system of pathways.

      Our next workday will be a week from Saturday - April 14th, from 10AM - 2PM.  I’ll bring some waters and juice drinks - and cookies.  Bring a snack to share if you’d like.
      No gardening experience necessary.  We’ll have most of the tools there, but if you have a favorite pair of gloves or clippers, bring them along.

      At 11AM we’ll take a break to discuss plans for the future of the Corbett Slope.  Please try and make it if you’d like to be involved on any level.

      See you next Saturday!!

      17th Street Speed Radar Trailer

      Hello Corbett Heights Neighbors —

      Just wanted to let you know - in case you haven’t already seen it - that Park Station has set up a Speed Radar Trailer at the top of Corbin Steps - just next to the traffic calming island.  This is in addition to the one we’ll be getting a bit farther down 17th Street which is scheduled to be installed on a sidewalk pole by the end of this month.  It’s been delayed by well over a year so don’t be too disappointed if it’s well into April before we see it.

      Park Station has finally gotten serious about the speeding and lack of stopping by cars coming down the hill on 17th St.  On several occasions a motorcycle officer has been positioned at the base of Corbett.  He never had to wait very long.  As you can see from Captain Feeney’s notes, this will be happening more regularly.

      17th Street Radar Trailer

      After obtaining several new batteries, the Park Station Radar Trailer has
      been set up once again on 17th Street, next to the traffic calming area.
      Additionally, our traffic officers will be conducting radar investigations
      in the area to reiterate the point to please SLOW DOWN. I was out there
      yesterday and earlier today and have to say that this is a perfect location
      for the trailer. I observed many vehicles slowing down considerably before
      approaching this sign and am

      encouraged that in combination with enforcement, we can reduce the speed of
      traffic. Please let your friends and neighbors know that we will soon be
      conducting an enforcement operation.

      IF YOU HAVEN’T SENT IN YOUR ANNUAL DUES, PLEASE DO SO.  IT’S $15 PER YEAR PER HOUSEHOLD - PAYABLE TO CORBETT HEIGHTS NEIGHBORS. YOU CAN EITHER MAIL IT TO 78 MARS, OR JUST DROP IT IN THE TOP MAILBOX.  IF YOU’RE NOT SURE WHETHER YOU ARE DUE, JUST SEND ME AN EMAIL AND I’LL LET YOU KNOW.
      THANKS!!

      Corbett Slope support

      Hi Neighbors,

      In case you’re wondering what’s happening with the Slope, there are meetings planned with DPW to discuss possible tree trimming, and also options for retaining walls.  We’re looking at early April for our next garden work day.

      BUT, in the meantime - I am applying for a SF Beautiful grant, and realized that letters of support from the neighborhood are required.

      If you are able to email me a letter of support by 4PM today, it will be greatly appreciated.  If not, not to worry.

      Please include your name and address, and say something to this effect:

      “I live in the neighborhood that surrounds the Corbett Slope, and the fact that it will remain open space is very important to me.  The improvements planned for the park will definitely improve our neighborhood.”

      Thanks very much!!
      Gary
